From the Archives: When California’s congressmen went to bat for San Diego women in slacks

During World War II the U.S. government placed restrictions on civilian clothing styles in order to conserve material for the war effort. In March of 1945 price controls were established to keep costs lower for essential items of clothing and slacks for women were not on the list.
